FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is being hypnotised like?
Many people have an expectation that being hypnotised will be an out of body experience and they’ll not be aware of what has happened afterwards. This is not the case, being hypnotised often feel surprisingly normal. You’ll be consciously aware of and involved with everything I say, afterwards you’ll normally remember everything, although clients experience this differently. Hypnosis is enabled by being very relaxed with focused attention. I’ll help you reach this through guided imagery (such as picturing a scene that makes you feel very relaxed), and then I’ll use suggestions to work towards the goals that we have agreed together. Afterwards clients tend to feel very relaxed, and refreshed, a bit like after a massage.
How long will it take?
Each appointment will last 1 hour. It will be made up of a consultation where we’ll discuss how you are, what you’d like to achieve and then the hypnosis section. There is time at the end for reflection and task setting.
How much will this cost me?
How many sessions will I need?
Hypnotherapy tends to be a short-term therapy, it is often relatively quick to achieve impactful and lasting results. The number of sessions needed depends what you want to achieve, we can discuss this before you start. Most clients see me for three to five sessions, though some like to continue for more.
Will I lose control?
You will remain in control at all times. While in hypnosis you will still be in control, choosing to accept or decline the suggestions I offer. I’ll be verbally guiding you through certain visions, images and situations creating a basis for successful results. Everything we work towards will be something we have discussed prior to the hypnosis part of the session.
Do you provide any guarantees of success?
I guarantee that I’ll be 100% committed to helping you and that I’ll work hard in preparing for each of your tailored sessions. I’ll be putting everything in place to enable successful therapy, but there are many factors influencing this. Hypnotherapy with me is very much a two-way process, I’ll be giving you tasks each week, it is essential that these are completed. This is an example of one factor influencing success that is not within my control. I work towards success, but cannot guarantee it.
Can I be hypnotised?
Given the right environment, mind-set and trust in your therapist, anyone can be hypnotised. While different people have different levels of susceptibility to hypnosis, hypnosis is actually a learned skill, the more you experience it, the deeper and more profound its effect on you. I also teach my clients self-hypnosis, so they can practice this daily at home, this practice will enable them to gain more from each of our sessions together.
Will you make me do silly things?
Absolutely not. Everything we work towards in the hypnosis sessions will be things that we have agreed together you want to achieve. A huge part of the success of this process is your trust in me as your hypnotherapist, I will never do anything to jeopardise this therapeutic relationship.

Are there any side effects?
Generally, there are no side effects other than perhaps tiredness, though often clients report that they feel incredibly relaxed, peaceful and calm after a session.
