Frequently asked questions

What is being hypnotised like?

Many people have an expectation that being hypnotised will be an out of body experience and they’ll not be aware of what has happened afterwards. This is not the case, being hypnotised feels surprisingly normal. You’ll be consciously aware of and involved with everything I say, afterwards you’ll normally remember everything. Hypnosis is enabled by being very relaxed with focused attention. I’ll help you reach this through guided imagery (such as picturing a scene that makes you feel very relaxed), and then I’ll use suggestions to work towards the goals that we have agreed together. Afterwards some people feel very relaxed, a bit like after a massage.

How long will it take?

Each session will last about an hour, with the first session, for the assessment lasting about an hour and a half. Each session will be made up of a consultation where we’ll discuss how you are and what we’ll be working towards and then the hypnotherapy part.

How much will this cost me?

It is often a good idea to think about the treatment as a whole before you start the first session. Phone me to discuss how many sessions you may need and then take some time to decide if you think that investment is worth it to overcome the issue that is holding you back. This will be based on my prices here

How many sessions will I need?

Hypnotherapy is often relatively quick to achieve impactful and lasting results. However the actual number of sessions needed will depend on you and what you want to achieve. Many of my clients need four to six sessions and becoming a non-smoker often takes just two or three sessions.

Will I lose control?

You will remain in control at all times. While in hypnosis you will still be in control, choosing to accept or decline the suggestions I offer. I’ll be verbally guiding you through certain visions, images and situations creating a basis for successful results. Everything we work towards will be something we have discussed prior to the hypnosis part of the session.

Do you provide any guarantees of success?

I guarantee that I’ll be 100% committed to helping you and that I’ll work very hard for you in preparing for each of your tailor made sessions. I’ll be putting everything in place to enable successful therapy, but there are many factors influencing this. Hypnotherapy with me is very much a two way process, I’ll be giving you homework each week, it is essential that this is completed. This is an example of one factor influencing success that is not within my control. I aim and work towards success, but cannot guarantee it.

Can I be hypnotised?

Some people believe they cannot be hypnotised, believing this may well enable it to be a reality. The truth is that given the right environment, mind-set and trust in your therapist, anyone can be hypnotised.  While different people have different levels of susceptibility to hypnosis, hypnosis is actually a learned skill, the more you experience it, the deeper and more profound its effect on you. I also teach all of my clients self-hypnosis, so they can practice this daily at home, this practice will enable them to gain more from each of our sessions together.

Will you make me do silly things?

Absolutely not. Everything we work towards in the hypnosis sessions will be things that we have agreed together you want to achieve. A huge part of the success of this process is your trust in me as your hypnotherapist, I will never do anything to jeopardise this therapeutic relationship.

Are there any side effects?

Generally there are no side effects other than perhaps tiredness, though often clients report that they feel incredibly relaxed, peaceful and calm after a session.
